What is our innocence,
무엇이 우리의 결백이며
what is our guilt? All are
무엇이 우리의 죄인가? 모두가
naked, none is safe. And whence
맨몸이라 안전한 자 없다. 헌데 용기는
is courage: the unanswered question,
어디에서 오는가, 답을 얻지 못하는 물음
the resolute doubt---
흔들림 없는 회의--
dumbly calling, deafly listening---that
입 막힌 채 소리치고, 귀먹은 채 들으며---
is misfortune, even death,
불행이자 죽음이기조차 하면서
encourages others
남에게 힘을 주고
and in its defeat, stirs
패배를 통해 영혼을
the soul to be strong? He
강하게 북돋우는 그것은? 깊이 보고
sees deep and is glad, who
즐거운 자 있으니, 죽을 운명을
accedes to mortality
받아들이는 자, 갇혀 있으나
and in his imprisonment rises
자신에 대항해
upon himself as
일어서는 자가 그렇다.
the sea in a chasm, struggling to be
바위틈을 벗어나려는 바닷물처럼
free and unable to be,
몸부림치나 실패하고
in its surrendering
굴복하면서도
finds it continuing.
끝내 포기하지 않는 자가
So he who strongly feels,
하여 강렬하게 느끼는 자가
behaves. The very bird,
바르게 행동한다. 노래하며 자란 새가
grown taller as he sings, steels
제 모습을 올곧게 벼린다. 잡혀 있으나
his form straight up. Though he is captive,
힘찬 그의 노래는
his mighty singing,
말한다,
says, satisfaction is a lowly
만족이란 천박한것,
thing, how pure a thing is joy.
기쁨이야말로 순수한 것이라고
This is mortality,
이것이 죽음의 운명이요
this is eternity.
이것이 영원한 생명이다
