그녀의 이야기는 어디에서 시작하여 어디에서 끝을 맺는지 알 수 없다. 단지 그녀는 어떤 조각들을 매우 섬세하게 그려서 제시할 뿐이다. 반복해서 등장하는 동일한 모티브를 통해 전체의 이야기는 짐작되지만 그것은 완전한 스토리가 아니라 어떤 부분들의 총합으로써만 제시되는 또 다른 부분이자 알레고리들일 뿐이다. 이진주의 그림이 이런 우리의 현실, 우리의 모습을 그대로 반영하고 있는 것이라면 어떨까. 즉 분열된 현대인의 기억과 꿈, 일상을 있는 그대로 그리고 있다고 한다면? 얼핏 보면, 그의 그림에 등장하는 소재들은 매우 개인적이다. 그렇다고 해서 전혀 새로운 무엇이 등장하는 것도 아니다. 단지 우리가 일상 속에서 무심결에 놓치고 있거나, 아니면 우리에게 잠재하고 있는 아니 우리 자신의 일부들. 즉, 분열된 주체나 불안과 불완전으로밖에 규정할 수 없는 전체의 일부인 것이다. 상실 자체를 아이러니하게 즐기는 멜랑콜리적 태도로부터 벗어난 상실한 것을 재발견하고 그 발견이 새로운 생성의 맹아가 될 수 있도록 하는 것. 그것은 풀기 힘든 현대 주체가 처한 어떤 곤궁의 지점일지도 모른다. ■ 이병희

No one knows where her story begins and ends. She never shows the whole. She presents only detailed depictions of the parts. At times, the pieces are composed of the numerous fragments coming from her dreams, memories, everyday life, and relations. Objects depicted in her works are in most cases things trivial, insignificant, neglected, or even thrown away. They are sometimes the parts extended from the body, or other times contain it, or grow newly from the parts deserted or cut off from it, or reborn as completely new ones. Lee does not seem to escape or deviate from our reality. Rather, she repeats the acts of mourning for the small pieces of modern life, and the forgotten and wasted. And in the very activities, the fragments of dreams or memories might continue endlessly, waiting to be reborn as a new story, and the parts and pieces of everyday life, or even of the body are multiplying into the new one of a new daily life, a new body.
